ABSTRACT: The interest in the inorganic open framework materials known as clathrate. As novel electronic materials is not only due to their unique structure-property relationships, but also due to their technological potential for thermoelectric and photovoltaic power conversion. Although these materials were first investigated 40 years ago, only within the past few years have researchers intensified their interest in these materials.Numerous properties of clathrates have since been investigated, including structural, transport, superconducting, magnetic, and optical properties. In this talk I will provide an overview of these interesting materials, concentrating on my work in the field and including recent new compositions and measurements.
