Computational Optical Materials Research (Faculty Mentor – Dr. David L. Shealy)

The proposed undergraduate research task will involve computational optics activities associated with the UAB Laser Research Laboratory, the Materials Physics Laboratory, and the Biophysical Laser Research Facility. These activities will involve using commercial optical design and analysis packages, such as, CodeV, OSLO, and GLAD to model and optimize the performance of imaging, spectroscopic, and illumination systems using lasers operating from UV to IR. Working through tutorials for these optics simulation packages, the undergraduate students will understand basic principles in optical design and use these tools to configure actual laboratory equipment to achieve desired experimental results.
