Any confirmed academic misconduct will be dealt with severely according to current University policies. It is important to be present and on time for all classes. Many activities in this class are undertaken by groups. If you are late, your partners will be inconvenienced.A basic scientific calculator is required for EVERY CLASS PERIOD. There are three skills that each student in this class needs to learn in order to contribute to group work. These are: 1. Using a camcorder to record good video; 2. Transferring video to computer using the application iMovie; and 3. Using the application VideoPoint to analyze videos of physical situations. For most people these are FUN skills. Most people enjoy learning and using these skills. But there are always a few students who hang back and dont join the fun and other students who love video so much that they take over. Students should take turns (like you learned in kindergarten) practicing each of these skills in your group so that each person learns each skill. In fact, your group should make sure that this happens. During each Skill Check, we will select a person from your group to demonstrate the skill and the group will receive the grade based on that persons performance. we will be measuring limited skills, not open-ended talents (more like whether you can tie your shoe, rather than compose a great symphony).Laboratory reports will consist of two parts and will be based on handouts provided for each investigation. The first part will relate to the actions that your group carries out, what you measure, and your analysis of this data. All group members will be expected to work together on this part and turn in only one document for the entire group with the signatures of all group members. In contrast, the second part of the report will be completed individually by each student based on his or her own understanding of the conclusions of the experiment. The focus of this last part will be on connecting experimental findings with physical principles described in class and in your textbook. This last individual question(s) will be handed out at the beginning of class following the lab. You will have 15 minutes to complete this part. The joint part of the lab report will make up 70% and the individual part 30% of the laboratory grade.This course requires the use of digital camcorders and computers, which are delicate and expensive. It is extremely important to the taxpayers that at the end of the course we have the same number of functioning units that we started with! Please exercise common sense caution to make sure that these devices are not dropped, smashed, clobbered, broken, bent, scratched, spilled on or stolen. When you are using the camcorders avoid placing them on the edge of the table where they can easily be knocked off. Also be careful with cables that can be tripped over resulting in damage. You are all adults and these are adult toolsso with some care there shouldnt be a problem.
